Individual Sky Assurance™ extended service contract descriptions, arranged by telescope purchase price, begin after the following descriptive material.
Meade Sky Assurance™ extended service contracts are third party insurance policies that increase Meade’s standard telescope warranty period to periods of three or five years (your choice). The Sky Assurance™ service contracts cover all parts and labor costs due to defects in workmanship and materials (including normal wear and tear). If the product can’t be repaired, it will be replaced. There is no deductible for any covered repair.
Each extended service contract is effective from the date of purchase of your telescope and includes Meade’s one-year warranty period (i.e., a three-year contract extends your protection for two years past the normal one-year warranty period, for a total of three years). You can enroll for extended service when you buy your telescope, or as late as one month before the expiration of the normal warranty period. In other words, you have eleven months from the date of purchase to decide whether you want to extend your warranty. At the end of eleven months, however, you lose your opportunity to extend your warranty.
If you purchase a Sky Assurance™ package, you will receive a sign-up kit from the insurance company that includes information on how to register your telescope with the Sky Assurance™ program. If your covered Meade telescope requires service within the extended warranty period, call the dedicated “Meade Sky Assurance” hotline number provided with the sign-up kit. No contract number or original receipt is necessary when calling the hotline. A Sky Assurance™ Customer Service Representative (CSR) will locate your file by your phone number or your name. The CSR will help you resolve the problem with your telescope. If the problem can’t be resolved by phone, you’ll be provided with a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) number. Simply box and ship the scope to the Meade Service Center at your expense using the RGA number. Return shipping charges back to you are paid under the contract.
Meade Sky Assurance™ also offers extra-cost Advance Shipping Upgrades for the extended warranties. If you choose this option, you’ll be sent a Meade shipping container for your defective scope with instructions on how to pack and ship the scope to the Meade Service Center at no cost to you. All of the shipping costs are covered under this option. The Advance Shipping option must be purchased at the same time as the extended service contract contract. It cannot be added later.
If your scope is repaired for the same problem three times, Meade will replace it with a like product equal in value to the original purchase price.
You can cancel your extended service contract at any time. You can cancel in the first 30 days and receive a full refund, less any claims that might have been paid. Cancellations made after the first 30 days are subject to reduced refunds.
If you bought your Meade telescope from us less than eleven months ago, you can still sign up for Sky Assurance™ coverage. If you wait for eleven months and a day after you bought, however, you lose your chance. If you bought your scope from a chain store or dealer who does not offer the Sky Assurance™ program, you can still get Sky Assurance™ extended coverage from us if you bought within the eleven month period. Proof of the date of purchase (a copy of the original invoice) will be required for scopes bought elsewhere.
Meade Sky Assurance™ policies are not available in the State of Florida.
