Each Astrozap FlexiHeat heated dew shield/lens shade shown below is made of lightweight, flexible, and durable black ABS plastic. It is lined with black felt to absorb moisture and light. Aside from retarding the formation of dew during nighttime observing, it acts as a lens shade to block neighboring lights and provide a sharper and higher contrast image when doing astronomical observing and imaging from a light-polluted city or suburban site.
Each FlexiHeat Dew Shield has a built-in Astrozap Dew Heater Strap. When used with the Astrozap Dual Channel Dew Controller, the FlexiHeat Dew Shield performs both active and passive dew fighting methods to keep the telescope objective dew-free, thereby lengthening precious telescope time.
Simply wrap the Astrozap dew shield around your optical tube’s front cell. The ends of the dew shield overlap and Velcro strips on the overlapping ends hold it firmly closed in a tubular shape. The Velcro strips are sewn in place for durability. A two-inch wide strip of foam rubber inside the end of the dew shield clasps the telescope optical tube front cell snugly to prevent any slippage of the dew shield during use.
The heater element works best when the dew shield is installed with the heater strip just behind the front cell of your scope, rather than resting on the heat-absorbing thicker metal of the front cell itself.
Storage is easy. You can roll the Astrozap up like a newspaper and fasten it with a rubber band or string to stand out of the way in the back of a closet when not in use. Alternatively, you can store it open and flat in the top of your telescope carrying case or standing on end out of the way in the back of a closet.
