Product Description
The iOptron #8030 pier is a heavy-duty aluminum alloy pier designed for use with all versions of the iOptron iEQ45 and CEM60 go-to German equatorial heads. It is 48" (1120mm) tall, 5.7" (144mm) in diameter, and weighs 25 lbs. It will support mount and scope payloads of up to 132 pounds (60kg).
While portable, it works best at a permanent observing site with a stable platform to sit it on - a concrete pad, observatory dome floor, etc. Leveling screws are provided on the three retractable steel legs for very precise leveling of the tripod and mount for precision long exposure astrophotography applications. Stainless steel reinforcing rods extend from the 22.5" (570mm) long legs to the pier. Turnbuckles on each reinforcing rod allow you to adjust the tension on the rods to brace the pier and reduce vibration.
If you have a stable platform to sit it on, the iOptron #8030 pier provides greater stability and vibration damping for high magnification observing and photography than a tripod.
