This JMI Motofocus electric focuser is designed for use with the GSO (Guan Sheng Optical Co. Ltd. in Taiwan) dual-speed Crayford focuser used on the Meade 16” LightBridge truss-tube Dobsonian reflector only.
The focuser consists of a small DC motor with a friction fit plastic coupler that slips over the ribbed fine-focusing knob of the dual-speed manual focuser, a hand control, and all necessary mounting hardware.
A screw in the body of the manual focuser and a supplied mounting bracket installed in its place, using the longer metric screw provided with the JMI focuser. A second bracket, attached to the focus motor, slips under the mounting bracket you’ve installed on the manual focuser body and the electric focuser is pushed onto the manual focuser until the plastic coupler slips over the manual focuser’s fine focus knob and grips it securely. This allows you to remove the electric focuser at any time, simply by pulling it straight out from the manual focuser body with no tools needed.
A small hand control box plugs into the motor using a supplied coiled cord. The control box holds a 9-volt battery (supplied) that will power the focuser for 6 to 8 months of normal use. Pushbuttons control the direction of focuser travel, while a three-position slide switch variable speed control adjusts the focusing speed. The slow and medium focusing speeds automatically switch to high speed focusing if the focus button is held down for more than three seconds. The motor has electromagnetic braking for very precise control.
