This 90mm i. d. quick release finderscope bracket has a dovetail mounting shoe that is slotted to fit the varying spacing of the finderscope mounting holes on the rear cell of 7” and larger Meade and Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain and Maksutov-Cassegrain telescopes. The bracket can be used on other telescopes, such as reflectors, if you are willing to drill mounting holes in the telescope tube to hold the mounting shoe.
One finger-tighten knob locks the finderscope mounting ring dovetail into the mounting shoe. This allows the finder to be quickly removed so the telescope can be put in its carrying case. The broad machined dovetail surfaces assure that the finder will be accurately collimated when it is reinstalled as the scope is being set up again. The bracket’s dual finder rings have an internal diameter of 90mm (2.5”) for use with finderscopes up to 80mm in aperture. The six long non-marring delrin-tipped collimating bolts (three per ring) are long enough to allow the bracket to be used with finderscopes as small as 50mm, as well. The rings are spaced 5” apart, raising the possibility of using the bracket as a holder for short focal length 60mm to 76mm photoguide scopes for astrophotography.
The bracket comes with the appropriate hardware to mount on both Celestron and Meade rear cells. Mounting on a reflector will require user-supplied nuts, bolts, and washers. A stop in the underside of the ring dovetail keeps the bracket from sliding out of the dovetail when the hand-tighten knob is loosened to release the bracket.
