Product Description

This Meade 14mm waterproof Ultra Wide is an exceptional medium focal length eyepiece with a very wide 82° field of view. It is O-ring sealed and nitrogen-purged to be 100% waterproof.

This 1.25" Meade eyepiece uses seven optical elements for sharp, well-corrected performance across a very wide 82° field of view. At 15mm, its usable eye relief is quite usable with eyeglasses, and its twist-up eyecup lets you match the eye relief to your eyesight and/or eyeglass use.

The 82° field of the Meade 14mm Ultra Wide is so wide that you can't see the field stop without moving your head from side to side, so the eyepiece seems to disappear in use. It gives you the feeling of looking through a picture window into space, rather than through a constricted tube, as with a conventional narrow field eyepiece. This unrestricted view is very impressive with fast focal ratio/short focal length scopes such as fast apo refractors or Dobsonian reflectors. A 10" f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector will have a full 1° field at 82x with this eyepiece, and a bright 3.1mm exit pupil. A 5.1" f/6 refractor will have a 1.47° field at 55x, with a 2.3mm exit pupil.

The eyepiece calculator that you'll find in the "Formulas" tab above will show you just how much magnification and field of view this eyepiece will provide with your particular telescope.

I Bought a 8.8 Series 5000 Eyepiece and was so impressed by it I bought a number of these eyepieces, including the 14mm. As good as my TeleVue's at a much better price. Clear crisp views thru my C9.25 and my 70mm apo. Nice 82 degree wide-field views. Highly recommended! (Posted on 12/3/2018)

I own all the new Meade 5k 82° eyepieces. This is one of my favorites. Optically, it's very good. Ergonomically, while some people don't like the twist up eyecups on these I think it is the most comfortable eyepiece I have for viewing. (Posted on 11/21/2018)

This is often my finder eyepiece providing 1.14 degrees TFOV in my 6" Newt. and 72x. Most of the field is very sharp with a bit of softening at the extreme edge, but because the field is so wide my eye doesn't notice unless I specifically look at the edge. In my 3x Barlow it becomes a super sharp to the edge 4.7mm. Star clusters and nebulas are superb. I get a lot of complements with this at out-reach events. Great for tracking with my Newtonian on its Dob mount. See additional comments on my 5.5mm review. (Posted on 10/27/2018)

Meade Series 5000 eyepieces are some of my favorite eyepieces. I own several including this 14mm. They have excellent eye relief and provide beautiful images. They also feel quite sturdy in the hand and are extremely easy to grip (a definite plus if you are wearing gloves or have cold fingers). I have also noticed that images appear slightly brighter in my smaller Stellarvue refractor with this UWA over some other brands I own. Overall, it is an exceptional eyepiece for the price and reflects what I have come to expect from Meade. (Posted on 10/10/2018)

This EP is by far my favorite that I own. I have
TeleVue Naglers in 3mm, 7mm, and 9 mm and then this 14mm and 18mm meade UWA with tele vue barlows. I am not kidding when I say that this 14mm barlowed to 7mm is just as fine as my 7mm TV nagler. You wouldnt think that a Meade EP being on the level with a TV Nagler but this one is! Definately my most used EP! (Posted on 10/6/2018)
