Product Description

This Meade 6.5mm HD-60 eyepiece is the latest high-power addition to the renowned Meade Series 5000 eyepiece line. Its advanced six-element optical design uses premium-grade and exotic glass for the best possible performance and image brightness. It is super fully multi-coated, with blackened lens edges for enhanced contrast. The Meade 6.5mm HD-60 offers a large 60° apparent field of view that is flat and tack sharp right to the edge. In addition, there is as much as a 40% improvement in chromatic aberration levels and edge distortion over traditional Plössls.

The new Meade 6.5mm HD-60 excels at high magnification lunar and planetary observing and splitting close binary stars. It will work well with any type of telescope, from a fast focal ratio reflector to a long focal length achromatic refractor.

Eye relief is a long 17mm and a twist-up rubber eyeguard provides viewing comfort and improved contrast, with eyeglasses or without. Its 1.25" chromed barrel is threaded for standard 1.25" filters, and a shallow safety groove is machined into the barrel. This groove engages the thumbscrew or compression ring of your focuser or star diagonal to prevent the eyepiece from falling should the thumbscrew loosen accidentally during use.

The 6.5mm Meade HD60 is one of my favorite affordable, short focal length eyepieces. It's very comfortable to look through with it's large eye lens and comfortable eye relief. The build quality is also very nice and it feels more expensive than it is. The fold up eye guard is smooth and stays put. Really good coatings... one of the blackest interiors I've seen at this price. Optically, very good performance... On par with eyepieces costing twice as much. (Posted on 9/26/2019)

I bought this eyepiece to use on the moon and planets with my 120mm, f8.3 refractor. I thought it might be too much magnification for average sky conditions but was wrong. I use it nightly on Saturn and Jupiter! At 154X, it gives a nice image in my scope, without being too much. At outreach, people can use it while wearing eyeglasses. (Posted on 9/15/2019)

I bought this and the 4.5 for use against the planets. My 8inch SCT has a little too much power and I am not near a stable enough atmosphere to really take advantage of it. (Posted on 7/24/2019)
