The Meade Series 5000 MWA (Mega Wide Angle) eyepieces have a huge 100° apparent field of view with excellent full field sharpness. Each eyepiece uses seven to nine elements in their optical design, using several different types of exotic glass to optimize the performance. The result is very good edge-to-edge resolution and high contrast. Looking at a deep space nebula or galaxy through a Series 5000 100° field eyepiece, where there is no field stop to cut off the image, provides a “picture window view” that may well be the next best thing to actually being in space.
Premium grade optical glass is used, with individually-tuned multilayer antireflection coatings for maximum light transmission. The lens edges and all internal metal surfaces are blackened to maximize image contrast. The Series 5000 100° field eyepieces are parfocal, requiring little or no refocusing when switching eyepieces within their series. They have long eye relief for eyeglass use. A soft fold-down rubber eyecup is standard. Dust covers are provided for both ends of the eyepiece.
Each eyepiece has a wide rubber grip ring for a comfortable and positive grip in cold or damp weather. A safety groove is cut into the barrels to keep the eyepiece from falling should an eyepiece holder’s thumbscrew loosen slightly during use.
