Product Description
This 30mm focal length Takahashi eyepiece uses a proprietary five-lens optical design that yields exceptionally sharp images and very high contrast. It has the high contrast, low ghosting, flat field, and excellent edge to edge image sharpness for which classical four-element Abbe-type orthoscopic eyepieces are famous. However, its modern five-element design has a 52° apparent field of view that is markedly wider than the 40-42° field typical of even the best conventional orthos.
The 30mm Takahashi is an excellent low to medium power eyepiece for scanning open clusters, picking up subtle detail in low surface brightness emission and reflection nebulas, etc. It provides a huge 6.6mm exit pupil with an f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector for scanning the Milky Way star clouds in Sagittarius and nebular remnants like the Veil. It's about the longest focal length eyepiece you can use with a Dobsonian without wasting some of the scope's light-gathering capability by having an exit pupil larger than your eye can dilate to accept. The 30mm Takahashi provides outstanding low power images with telescopes of every optical type - refractors, reflectors, Schmidt-Cassegrains, Maksutovs, and more.
