Product Description

The Celestron SkySync adds GPS (Global Positioning System) accuracy to all non-GPS go-to computerized Celestron telescopes. It works with both altazimuth and German equatorial mount Celestrons, and is powered by your scope (no batteries needed).

SkySync starts you observing faster by using GPS satellite transmissions to accurately enter the necessary time, date, and observing location information into your scope's NexStar computer automatically while you set up the rest of your observing gear. There's no manual time, date, or location data input on your part. SkySync lets you spend more time observing and less time getting ready to observe.

SkySync is a great help if you travel to several different observing sites, assuring faster and more accurate alignment on the sky at each site with no guesswork. If your view of the north from your backyard observing site is obstructed by buildings or trees, SkySync will make short work of accurately aligning your scope on the skies. You won't have to guess if you're pointing at Polaris.

SkySync comes with two Velcro straps that let you mount it on the tripod leg of your scope. A 13" strap mounts SkySync on a CGE Pro mount, while a separate 10" strap works with all other Celestron mounts. A cable from the SkySync module plugs into your scope's hand control or accessory port. You'll need to do a rough polar alignment if your scope is a German mount model. No alignment is needed with an altazimuth mount scope.

SkySync's16-channel GPS receiver determines its latitude and longitude on earth from the GPS satellite signals, triangulating your location with an accuracy measured in meters. It determines the time and date from the GPS satellite signals with an accuracy measured in fractions of a second.

Once SkySync knows precisely where and when on Earth it is, it relays that information to your scope's computer. Your scope's NexStar computer needs that information to align on the heavens. The more accurate the time and location information you can give to your scope, the more accurate your scope's alignment on the sky. SkySync guarantees a very high accuracy and a no-guesswork scope set-up.

Look in your Manual for Hand Control Menu Tree for Utility.
For NexStar and AVX, Utility has Turn on/off GPS. StarSense Align Manual has no Utility. It has Time and Location. Then Time/Loc Source. GPS Appliance to choose with right up/down arrow. It is tricky to turn the unit on. They might have made it more difficult to turn it on, but I do not see how. They really need to improve this stated procedure for activating GPS with StarSence. If you ever get it turned on it is great. (Posted on 10/28/2019)

I bought this to help with aligning. It is a great addition to the already excellent all start alignment. It makes the process quicker and I don't image without it! (Posted on 9/10/2019)

I resisted getting this when I got my AVX 6” Newtonian. I have many devices (cell phone, truck GPS, maps, etc) that give me coordinates of where I am, and the time, so why pay to get *another* GPS? After a few months of entering, and re-entering, and re-entering, coordinates, sometimes multiple times a night if I had to reboot the mount, I got this. It’s worth the money to save a lot of aggravation. Works flawlessly. Just have to be patient for a minute or so for it to find the satellites. Accuracy good; matches my other devices. I purchased one of these for use in my observatory- it interfaced right up to the Celestron CGE mount with no issues. (Posted on 12/5/2018)

I own a Celestron Nexstar 8 SE. I use the scope at various locations and occasionally had problems with SkyAlign. I purchased the SkySync to speed up the alignment process. This GPS unit accurately determines position, time, and date, making the alignment process much easier. I gave it four stars because of its cost. (Posted on 8/4/2017)

I received my SkySync and couldn't wait to hook it up and see if it was accurate. No luck. I kept getting a motor error. Turns out the unit was bad. Too bad. I did return it and purchased the Celestron 80mm guide scope package instead. I do wish this item would have worked the first time. I would still have it and would most likely use it often. Quick and easy! I use the SkySync with my CGEM. Plug it in, power up the mount, and you're ready to start aligning. (Posted on 8/4/2017)
