Product Description

The Celestron #94004 NexStar carrying case is designed to safely carry a NexStar 8 telescope (assembled OTA and fork arm/drive base, not including tripod) as well as any Celestron 9.25" or 11" Schmidt-Cassegrain or EdgeHD optical tube (with quick-release finder removed).

The case is molded from EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) copolymer to protect your telescope with a hard yet flexible shock-absorbing shell. The case comes with a convenient storage zipper pocket in the lid that holds all of your telescope's standard accessories, with room to expand.

I currently use this for my Vixen R200SS and it fits perfectly along with the dew shield and finder. It is great for storage or for transport. I am not sure if I would ship it in this case however. I imagine that this case would work well for other OTAs of a similar size. (Posted on 10/31/2019)

I bought this for my 8" SCT and it works great. It holds the OTA, the mount, and a lot of the accessories I need for this telescope. It's well made and protects my OTA well on all the road trips I take with it, which was what I wanted. The interior pockets hold sky charts, cords, the accessory tray, plus there's room to stash my binoculars, a camera, Tetrad, etc. (Posted on 10/6/2018)

My Experience: I've had this case since I've had my 9.25" SCT OTA - about five years. It holds my OTA and dew strips.

What it is: A stiff sided case on a reasonably rigid frame. An interior strap holds the OTA in place. A thick, removable pad allows the interior size to adjust to handle the two OTA sizes. The interior of the cover has a zippered compartment with two sets of pockets, which you can use to hold a variety flattish accessories. (I use these pockets to hold dew strips.)

Weakness: While the frame is reasonably rigid, the exterior sides are not: they are just stiff (think thin, bendable plastic). It would be a mistake to stack anything on the case, or place the case anywhere that something heavy and with stiff or solid corners could bump into it. That includes transport in a car or truck. Likewise, the interior pockets are protected from the scope by just a zippered nylon shield; so, you wouldn't want to put anything hard, bulky, or with edges into the cover pockets: doing so would place you at risk of denting or scratching your OTA. You could put the Sky Atlas 2000 into this area, if you wanted; however, I wouldn't put the Jumbo PSA there (hardcover with too firm edges for my comfort).
The case wheels are too small to be anything but ornaments when moving the scope on an observing field: you'll want to carry the case by its handle straps (one on side, one on top).

My use: I use the case for closet and garage storage of the OTA, standing as illustrated. When transporting the scope - e.g., to a star party - I make sure it is on top of everything else, or on its side and carefully braced by something hard sided that is at least as large as the scope (I typically use the hard-sided JMI case for my mount head), and carefully packed so that nothing can slide about.
