Product Description

This 10" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian reflector has:

10" aperture 1200mm focal length f/4.7 Newtonian optics
single-speed 2" Crayford focuser with 1.25" adapter
9 x 50mm finderscope
1.25" 10mm and 25mm Plössl eyepieces
Teflon altitude and azimuth bearings
altitude tension clutch
eyepiece tray

Like all Dobsonian reflectors, this big 10" Sky-Watcher traditional Dob gives you more light-gathering for your visual observing dollar than any other telescope type. It is a "light bucket" that can show you faint deep space objects that are simply invisible in smaller scopes.

Its visual limiting magnitude of 14.5 makes this 10" Sky-Watcher a natural for observing faint nebulas, galaxies, and star clusters, particularly from a dark sky site. Light-polluted city or suburban sites may require adding a light pollution filter to get the most from this scope's superb deep space capabilities.

With parabolic mirror Newtonian optics and very thin (only 0.5mm) secondary mirror spider vanes to reduce diffraction, the Moon and planets are sharp and well-defined . . . and very bright. You might need a neutral density filter to cut down the image brightness, particularly when lunar observing. The Moon and planets show high contrast and none of the violet halo of spurious color you find in similarly-priced smaller aperture achromatic refractors.

The 10" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian is easy to get to your favorite observing site, too, whether that be your own back yard or a dark sky site miles out of town. The Sky-Watcher breaks down into two components - a 48" long 30 pound optical tube and a 26 pound wooden rocker box altazimuth base. It weighs only 56 pounds fully assembled. And assembling the 10" Sky-Watcher Dob takes just a moment, with no tools needed. Simply lift the optical tube, rest its circular altitude bearings in the semi-circular cutouts in the sides of the rocker box, put in an eyepiece, and you're ready to observe.

The optical tube rides on Teflon altitude and azimuth bearings. It moves smoothly in altitude and azimuth to manually find and track objects at the touch of a finger. The 10" Sky-Watcher Dob is equipped with an altitude tension control handle. This lets you adjust the tension in altitude with a simple twist of the wrist to let you compensate for differing eyepiece weights to keep the optical tube from sinking when changing from a lighter to a heavier eyepiece.

Other features include an eyepiece tray, two 1.25" Plössl eyepieces (48x and 120x), a 9 x 50mm straight-through finderscope, and a 2" Crayford focuser with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter. Your 10" Sky-Watcher Dob comes with everything you need to start observing immediately.

Simply made, but with precision optics, this Sky-Watcher 10" traditional Dobsonian reflector "light bucket" will reward you with bright deep space and solar system views and years of trouble-free observing enjoyment.

I’ve had mine for a just a few weeks, so still quite a new scope. However, I have had lots of fun with it. Nothing to complain about in optical quality, and nothing beats the sight of a beautiful 10” mirror. The finderscope doesn’t have a diagonal, which makes viewing difficult near the zenith however, and the accessories are fairly bare bones. But none of this matters, considering that this telescope offers you perhaps more aperture for your buck than any other on the market. And I feel that’s the essence of the Dob: big bucket, low cost. I really like this scope. The specs are great and you can see very well through it. The only downside is the size and it's two fold. I am not all that into getting into awkward positions to see objects lower in the sky and haven't really found a chair that is all that comfortable. This I imagine is a problem with all dobsonians and it shouldn't be detrimental to your opinion of this scope. I just offer for those that haven't used a large dobsonian a lot that this thing is heavy and cumbersome and sometimes you have to get into awkward positions to view through it. If I had to do it all over again I might have opted for something more convenient to use. I give it five stars because it excels at what it is and it gives you a great bang for the buck, but I warn those that have not considered the difficulty of use of dobsonians vs cassegrains etc to consider this when buying a scope. If you are ok with that, then go ahead, you are getting a great quality scope. (Posted on 10/4/2019)

Have had the Dob for years. Sure I had to actually learn the sky and stars without a GoTo mount. But now if the object is visible I can find it. The optics are outstanding. Light gathering with a 10" mirror is amazing. The dob mount is sturdy and movement glides easily allowing finger-touch adjustment during a viewing session. Took to the solar eclipse and got great pictures through the scope. Oh! And did I say you can't beat the price. (Posted on 7/22/2019)

If you are looking for a great first telescope, this is the one for you! Great for planetary and deep space observations and will keep you grinning every time you take it out. (Posted on 12/14/2018)

I have owned this scope for two years. It has seen a lot of sky and it is still going strong and will be for years to come. I did add a telrad to it but the finder it comes with is totally useable. The light gathering capability of the Skywatcher 10 is fantastic. It bridges the gap from the "just really beginning to see faint fuzzies" of the 8" dob and the weight and such of the larger 12" scopes on the other. I also like the tension adjustments that Skywatcher uses on this dob, it is very easy to adjust for heavier eyepieces and the like without having to add counterweights etc. (Posted on 11/25/2018)
