This TeleVue Bandmate Planetary 1.25” eyepiece filter is designed to enhance faint details on Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. It increases the visibility and contrast of the immense centuries-old storm that is the Great Red Spot, and the bandings and festoons of Jupiter's atmosphere. On Saturn, it makes the faint banding of the otherwise bland face of the planet easier to see. On Mars, it enhances the darker Mare of the Martian surface while preserving the white of the polar caps and natural color of the rest of the surface.

The Planetary filter is a sophisticated interference filter with multi-layer ion-deposited dielectric coatings. The filter is made of polished optical grade BK7 glass to insure there is no image degradation due to quality of the substrate. It uses ion beam sputtering deposition technology to produce hard, stable coatings that resist changes due to temperature and humidity. 

The use of dielectric coatings, rather than dyed glass, gives high transmission and better blocking of unwanted wavelengths. This yields high contrast images and a more natural color spectrum that particularly enhances viewing Saturn and Jupiter. The filter’s 1.25" aluminum cell is precision machined and laser etched. The filter is supplied in a protective plastic case.
