Product Description

The Software Bisque Pyramid Portable Pier tripod is designed for fast and stable setup of the Paramount MX mount in the field, in your backyard, or in your observatory. The Pyramid Portable Pier weighs only 20 pounds (9.1 kg), yet will support a full 250 pound (113.6 kg) maximum payload. That's more than enough capacity to hold the 90 pound (with counterweights) Paramount MX equatorial mount and any possible telescope and accessory combination capable of being used with the Paramount MX's 90 pound payload capacity.

The Pyramid Portable Pier's tubular and machined aluminum design provides outstanding stability in a truly portable 20 pound platform. It has a 360 degree azimuth adjustment. Raised leveling adjustment knobs minimize lower back strain when leveling the mount on uneven ground. The pier feet swivel to conform to the ground's uneven surface. There is a center tray for holding accessories.

I've had my portable pier now for 4 years. It is a bit pricey, but overall very solid. I am a bit tall, and with my 6 inch refractor OTA on an MX+ mount, I was always kneeling to get to the eyepiece. I highly recommend getting one or two pier height extenders (6 inches each) to keep the grass stains off your knees. The red anodizing matches the Bisque MX+. The leg cross bracing is secured with the round eyepiece holder and a wingnut - my unit continued to bind but was fixed with a new wingnut and screw (supplied by Bisque for free). The bubble level on the tripod is somewhat exposed, and it's glass easily broken when you place your mount on the tripod. I had a hockey equipment bag that I had used to transport the tripod, but it no longer fits in the bag with the two height extenders. (Posted on 10/25/2018)

I have had this tripod now for about 6 months. it is so easy to carry, setup and adjust. the mating surfaces need little compression applied to stop the rotation of the top pier plate and the center platform of the tripod. Most of the mass is in the center piece and the wide stance of the joints where angular legs meet the square shoulder of the joint gives amazing rotational stability. Nice damping even with an AP 1100 a 43 pound payload on board. Easy to set up. The elevated leveling knobs cant be understated in keeping me from bending over to adjust the mount. Swivel feet are broad and have great latitude for uneven ground. Great stance and just the right height for me to work on my scope. Pricey but I doubt if I will ever wear it out.
