Product Description

This 6" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian reflector has:

6" aperture 1200mm focal length f/8 Newtonian optics
single-speed 2" Crayford focuser with 1.25" adapter
6x30mm finderscope
1.25" 10mm and 25mm Plössl eyepieces
Teflon altitude and azimuth bearings
altitude tension clutch
eyepiece tray

Like all Dobsonian reflectors, this 6" Sky-Watcher Classic Dob gives you more light-gathering for your visual observing dollar than any other telescope type. It is a "light bucket" that can show you faint deep space objects that are simply invisible in smaller scopes.

Its visual limiting magnitude makes this 6" Sky-Watcher a natural for observing faint nebulas, galaxies, and star clusters, particularly from a dark sky site. It's long focal length also makes it a fantastic planetary and lunar telescope.

With parabolic mirror Newtonian optics and very thin (only 0.5mm) secondary mirror spider vanes to reduce diffraction, the Moon and planets are sharp and well-defined . . . and very bright. You might need a neutral density filter to cut down the image brightness, particularly when lunar observing. The Moon and planets show high contrast and none of the violet halo of spurious color you find in similarly-priced smaller aperture achromatic refractors.

The 6" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian is easy to get to your favorite observing site, too, whether that be your own back yard or a dark sky site miles out of town. The Sky-Watcher breaks down into two components - a 48" long 15 pound optical tube and a 20 pound wooden rocker box altazimuth base. It weighs only 35 pounds fully assembled. And assembling the 6" Sky-Watcher Dob takes just a moment, with no tools needed. Simply lift the optical tube, rest its circular altitude bearings in the semi-circular cutouts in the sides of the rocker box, put in an eyepiece, and you're ready to observe.

The optical tube rides on Teflon altitude and azimuth bearings. It moves smoothly in altitude and azimuth to manually find and track objects at the touch of a finger. The 6" Sky-Watcher Dob is equipped with an altitude tension control handle. This lets you adjust the tension in altitude with a simple twist of the wrist to let you compensate for differing eyepiece weights to keep the optical tube from sinking when changing from a lighter to a heavier eyepiece.

Other features include an eyepiece tray, two 1.25" Plössl eyepieces (48x and 120x), a 6 x 30mm straight-through finderscope, and a 2" Crayford focuser with a 1.25" eyepiece adapter. Your 6" Sky-Watcher Dob comes with everything you need to start observing immediately.

Simply made, but with precision optics, this Sky-Watcher 6" Classic Dobsonian reflector "light bucket" will reward you with bright deep space and solar system views and years of trouble-free observing enjoyment.

We purchased this scope to use with our kids. It's a great scope for the money with good light gathering capabilities. In hindsight, I wish we had gone with the 8", only because it's the same size base, but with a larger scope. Otherwise, this scope is easy to use, our kids were able to maneuver and find different objects in the sky. I like the option of using a 2" eyepiece for a scope in this price range. Also, being white in color makes it really easy to see in the dark. (Posted on 10/23/2019)

I've had this scope for the past several months and have had zero major issues. Once I understood how the collimation and locking screws worked, collimation was very easy. On good nights and when Jupiters was higher, I could make out the Great Red Spot (when it was transiting). The Cassini Divide (Saturn) can just barely be seen, but still can be seen on better nights! Very happy with my first scope purchase and would 100% recommend either this or the 8" for anyone wanting to get started! (Posted on 10/6/2019)

I bought this scope to replace my prior 6" DOB that got ruined. I chose this one over another brand for primarily the fact that the Sky-Watcher has a two inch focuser (R&P not crayford as in description) and adjustable altitude tensioner. Both worth the little bit of extra cost.
Build quality is good as expected. Assembly is easy with the required tools provided. Easy to use and puts up some good views. I did not try the included eye pieces as I have a higher quality set. I think I will be happy with this scope for its intended use.
There are a few negatives I found:
1. The scope does not include a collimation tool. The collimation on my scope was off but I already have a collimation tool and corrected it. If this is your first scope, you will need to purchase a collimation tool or cap.
2. The carry handle is not at the center of gravity of the assembled scope. You have to use your other hand to hold the top of the base while carrying.
3. The eye piece holder holes are too close to the side of the base. The included eyepieces will fit in the holder, but if you have larger bodied eyepieces, they hit the base and will not go into the holder hole.
4. The focuser does not have a 2" to 1.25" reducer. You either have to use the provided 2" adapter or the 1.25" adapter. (Posted on 9/9/2019)

The Sky-Watcher 6”, f/8 Classic DOB is very well made, good performing scope at a very reasonable price. But don’t let the price fool you. This is a well made and complete scope. It’s a solid build with a metal tube, sturdy and smooth working DOB mount, and quality components such as a very good 4 vane spider and 2”/1.25” focuser.
Optically, it gives you good light gathering ability for deep sky objects, and plenty of sharp detail for the moon , planets and double stars.
The mount is well made and movements in both altitude and azimuth are smooth and true.
This is a very good scope at a price you can afford. (Posted on 8/26/2019)

Over many years, the 6” f/8 Newtonian has been a very popular telescope. It combines portability with very good observing capabilities. The SkyWatcher Classic 150p, follows this tradition and then some.
Being a Dobsonian it is very east to transport, assemble and use. This is very important taking the scope outside and back in, and moving around for unobstructed views. And traveling to a dark site is easy with this scope.
What struck me first is the mechanical build of the scope. It is not a compromise in any way. The tube is strong metal, the mirror cell, spider/secondary holder, focuser are very capable. And the mount works wonderfully...smooth and solid. This is a well built scope.
Optically I enjoyed good views of the moon, planets and deep sky objects, though I live in a light polluted area. I only test scopes to the extent of looking at the in-focus Airy disk and diffraction ring pattern. If the Airy disk is round and well defined and the diffraction rings are not overly energized, I consider the optics good. That’s what I found.
This is a very good telescope at a very good price. (Posted on 7/24/2019)
