Product Description

This 127mm (5") aperture Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain provides exceptional high contrast/high resolution solar system images at a very sensible price. You can see the phases of Mercury and Venus; lunar rilles and craters less than three miles across; Martian polar caps and major dark surface features; cloud belts on Jupiter, with some detail in the belts, plus the shadows of Jupiter's moons on the planet during transits; Cassini's division in Saturn's rings on a regular basis, plus four or five of its moons; and Uranus and Neptune visible as very small discs.

Outside the solar system, the high resolution 127mm Sky-Watcher will show you dozens of globular clusters, emission nebulas, planetary nebulas, and galaxies; all of the Messier objects and many of the brighter NGC objects from a dark sky site (with some internal detail visible in many nebulas, although most galaxies will remain relatively featureless hazy patches). It can also be used as a very high performance terrestrial spotting scope.

Features of this 127mm Sky-Watcher Maksutov-Cassegrain . . .

Maksutov-Cassegrain optics: 5" (127mm) aperture, 1500mm focal length, f/11.8 optical system. The system's Maksutov corrector lens is fully multi-coated on both sides with multiple layers of anti-reflection materials for high light transmission and good contrast.

Internal focuser: Focuses by moving the primary mirror fore and aft in the optical tube by means of a large focusing knob on the rear cell.

Star diagonal: 2" 90° mirror type.

2" eyepiece: The 2" 54x eyepiece is a fully multi-coated three-element Sky-Watcher 28mm LET design with a long 20mm eye relief and a twist-up eyecup. The eyepiece field of view is little over 1° across, more than twice the diameter of the full Moon, for expansive views of the Moon, nebulas, and globular star clusters.

Finder: 6 x 30mm straight-through dark crosshair achromatic refractor.

Dovetail: Vixen-style dovetail for installing the scope on any altazimuth or equatorial mount that uses a Vixen-style saddle.

Warranty: two years.

I bought this scope about 6 months ago as my first serious telescope. I wanted something that I could easily travel with that would be versatile. So far it's been great for planetary and lunar viewing. I've done limited terrestrial viewing with it, and while the long focal length has been an occasional annoyance the optical quality has been fine. I get a lot of scope jiggle with the focuser but that may be just my clumsy fingers. Overall I would recommend it as a good starter scope. (Posted on 10/18/2019)

Great little scope. I went down from a nice C6 to buy this one since it rarely needs collimating, a smaller size & weight, and it has views almost the same as a C6. I need a less sturdy tripod and can travel with it better. I think I put the C6 out of collimation through a few travel bumps. This one is more rugged that way. Nice accessories too and I can use most of my C6 accessories. Like it. (Posted on 9/11/2019)

This item was bought as a step down from a C6. I needed it to be lighter and the collimation of the C6 was a nightmare. This one is a perfect fit for me as my tripod is less sturdy than a C6 can handle. this one at 8.6 pounds handles all of my demands. The accessories are a step up from others that arse similar. Nice 2"diagonal. It uses most of my C6 accessories too. (Posted on 9/11/2019)

This is a lot of optic in a small package. Makes good use of longer eyepieces and comes with 2" accessories.
Great on the moon, planets and doubles. Good DSO contrast over a very flat field. A rugged design that holds its collimation almost forever. (Posted on 8/1/2019)

I've used this scope for nearly a year now, for the size it gives great views of the planets and smaller DSOs. Collimation was perfect out of the box and I havent needed to touch it. The back has SCT size threads and comes with a 2" visual back and a nice 2" diagonal. All in all a very nice performing small scope. (Posted on 7/24/2019)

Very sharp optics. Came right out of the box perfectly collimated. No noticeable image shift while focusing. Very good buy especially now that it is on sale. Would prefer a 90 degree finder, but that is nothing to complain about. Overall, no complaints. By the way, it appears the true working aperture is around 120-121 mm. Do not worry about that, it performs great and will cool much faster than the 150mm. (Posted on 12/12/2018)

I don't have this scope, but I have a similar one marketed by Orion. It is the scope I use the most because it is easy to carry and set up. I use it for both astronomy and as a terrestrial spotting scope. (Posted on 10/7/2018)
