Product Description
This medium focal length Takahashi eyepiece uses a proprietary five-lens optical design that yields exceptionally sharp images and very high contrast. The 18mm Takahashi has the high contrast, low ghosting, flat field, and excellent edge to edge image sharpness for which classical four-element Abbe-type orthoscopic eyepieces are famous - but the modern five-element Takahashi design has a 52° apparent field of view that far outstrips the 40-42° field typical of even the best conventional orthos.
The 18mm Takahashi is a very good medium power eyepiece for lunar observing, resolving globular clusters, picking up detail in emission and reflection nebulas, etc. It provides a good 4mm exit pupil with an f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector for rich field scanning of the Milky Way star clouds in Sagittarius. It's an excellent choice to complement the 40mm eyepiece provided with some go-to Schmidt-Cassegrains. It makes an excellent all-purpose eyepiece with scopes of all optical types - refractors, Schmidt-Newtonian and Dobsonian reflectors, catadioptrics, and more.

Views are very sharp from edge to edge. Comfortable to use. Nice solid weight, but not too heavy. I think this is EP is under the radar. (Posted on 10/6/2018)
