Product Description

This Meade zero image shift electric microfocuser threads onto the rear cell of current Meade LX200, LX200ACF, and LS telescopes only. It is controlled by Meade AutoStar II or AutoStar III computer hand controls only (the current version with a 145,000 object database), and will not work with any Meade telescope using the earlier AutoStar I hand control (e.g., any LX10, LX90, or LX200 equipped with the AutoStar I hand control), nor with any other brand of telescope. It accepts both 2" and 1.25" star diagonals and accessories.

In the image above, the 1.25" accessory adapter is shown fitted into the 2" accessory barrel of the Meade focuser, where it is held in place by the two thumbscrews at the top of the focuser. The head of the single thumbscrew that holds accessories in the 1.25" adapter is visible at the 9 o'clock position on the focuser body, with the end of the silver threaded thumbscrew visible inside the 1.25" opening in the adapter.

The pin jack that plugs into the focuser output of current LX200 scopes is at the right rear, at the end of the permanently attached coiled cord that is connected to the focuser.

At the left front is an adapter ring that threads onto the rear cell of your scope. Once the adapter ring is firmly threaded in place on your scope, the focuser slips over the adapter ring and is held in place by recessed screws in the body of the focuser.

At the right front is an adapter ring that slips into the focuser's 2" barrel to emulate the 2" rear cell thread of your scope so you can use any visual and photographic accessories that normally would thread directly onto your scope's rear cell.

I purchased the Meade Zero Image-Shift Focuser to steady my fine focusing on a Meade 8" LS8 ACF. I just got tried of waiting for the "wobbles" to stop. I am very happy with the results. The focuser is a very subtle focusing process with the choice of 3 different speeds. A couple of tips for those considering. The overall length of travel is 1/2". Meade recommends that the focuser be extended 1/4" (mid-travel) before "rough focus done with SCT knob. Then fine focus with the AutoStar handbox (ASIII HB). This works well. If you swap lenses of hop to a new space object. Reset the focuser to mid-point, rough focus SCT, then fine focus with the ASIII HB. I don't have any par focus lenses so I can't speak on that. I also agree with other reviews that Meade could have a better anchor system that an Allen wrench and set screws to attach to their mounting ring. I replaced the set screws with stainless steel metric cap screws and added plastic caps to them to allow me to attach the focuser without tools. I also put a thin band of tape in the recess of the attachment collar to give these "finger-tight" screws a soft grip without needing to "gorilla tighten" them and prevent the focuser from slipping and spinning. Finally, I think Meade could put a stop at both extremes of the focuser travel. They recommend you get used to the change in pitch the motor makes when either fully extended or retracted. How about it just stops? Still like the focuser it a lot. It is exactly al that I'd hoped it would be. (Posted on 9/16/2019)

Used this focuser on my 8" LX200 GPS for years. It came with the scope. A great focuser. It was so nice to be able to get targets into razor sharp focus without even having to touch the scope or deal with mirror shift when using the stock focuser. If you own a meade cassegrain, or any scope that will accept it, it will make your day when trying to get superfine focus without your target moving even a fraction of an inch! getting that perfect microfocus was as important to me for imaging as tracking and optics. Loved this focuser for as long as i owned my LX200. Made the difference in all my images. (Posted on 12/21/2018)

This is a nifty piece of device. Makes focusing a real breeze. The attachment allows it to fit on both celestron and meade SCTs, but the most significant item is the 2inch thread to 2 inch adaptor which allows the focuser to fit onto the 2inch end of any focuser accepting 2 inch accessories. You instantly get a motorised focuser for your scope, without having to fiddle with multiple adaptors/remove focuser. Don't need to use the meade autostar controller to work this device, just a normal electric focuser hand controller will do. (Posted on 10/7/2018)
