Product Description

This Dioptrx accessory lens corrects for an astigmatism of 1.00 diopter. (This would be a"CYL" value of 1.00 in your eyeglass prescription.)  The lens rotates to match the orientation of your astigmatism, whether it is orthogonal (up and down) or oblique (at any angle intermediate between vertical and horizontal).

The lens replaces the rubber eyeguard at the top of any of the following long eye relief TeleVue eyepieces only: 26mm and 31mm Nagler type 5; 22mm, 27mm, 35mm, and 41mm Panoptic; 22mm, 40mm, and 55mm Plössl; all Radians (18mm thru 3mm); and all Nagler type 4 (22mm, 17mm, and 12mm). An adapter (DEA0001) is available to allow its use in 19mm and 24mm Panoptic eyepieces or the 20mm Type 5 Nagler. A separate adapter (DNA6000) is available to allow its use in all Type 6 Naglers.

The lens is precision-ground from optical glass, multicoated, and mounted in an anodized aluminum housing that locks into place on your eyepiece. A rubber eyeguard tops the Dioptrx lens.

I find the Dioptrx ideal if you must correct your vision for astigmatism, but you prefer to observe without glasses. Just buy the Dioptrx that matches the CYL number from the glasses prescription for your observing eye . The device attaches to the top of the telescope eyepiece using a rubber compression ring -- it is compatible with many Tele Vue eyepieces as well as other brands. (Check the Tele Vue website or Cloudy Nights for details.) I especially like using it on my Delos 17.3 and Nagler 31, because the exit pupil is large in my scope and thus the astigmatism causes stars to look spiky and unfocused.

Since Dioptrx uses about 8mm of eye relief, it is important to use it on an eyepiece that has a comfortable amount of eye relief. For example, on the Delos 17.3, the maximum eye relief is 20mm. My comfort range for eye relief is around 12mm, so I use the adjustable eyecup on the eyepiece fully collapsed, and thus I'm back at my comfortable effective eye relief of 12mm with the Dioptrx.
