Product Description

This focal reducer and field flattener consists of a four-element multicoated 40mm lens in a metal cell. It threads onto the rear cell of 5” to 16” Celestron and Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, making it possible to have a dual focal ratio instrument without sacrificing image quality. The reducer/corrector duplicates the rear cell thread of the telescope, allowing you to attach all standard rear cell visual and photographic accessories to the reducer. The reducer/corrector converts the f/10 focal ratio of Celestron C5, C8, C9¼, and C11 telescopes (and all Meade 8” and larger f/10 telescopes) to f/6.3. The f/11 C14 telescope becomes an f/7. When used for astrophotography, it reduces exposure times by a factor of 3, with an actual field diameter of 1.5” at the film plane.

A rubber grip ring on the body allows for easy installation of the reducer/corrector on your scope, even when you are wearing gloves.

I've owned and used both the Meade and Celestron FR's and have to say that the AT performed just as well. As a matter of fact the AT looks to be a rebranded Meade FR... Mine even had "series 4000" stamped on the side of it. Don't know why this FR is $65 and the Meade is $99.... (Posted on 4/17/2021)

Bought for my CPC-925 because the Celestron model seemed unnecessarily expensive for what it was. I'm 100% satisfied - this works like a charm for both visual and AP and, like my other Astro-Tech accessories, the build quality and optical performance are on par with much more expensive options. Compared to reducer/flatteners from Celestron and Meade as well as Antares, this appears to be of the same quality and build at half the price of the Celestron version. I have used it extensively with a C8 for EAA and find it invaluable for a faster system and larger FOVs when needed. Highly recommended! (Posted on 9/13/2019)

I used to own the MEADE 4000 series focal reducer and field flattener for my 5" Celestron SC. Upon getting my portable imaging setup ready for a move I realized my old reducer had some chipped glass pieces around the thread, so I needed a replacement. Since I plan to move to a fast refractor, I needed a low cost replacement and went for the astro-tech reducer. Mechanical quality seems identical, I haven't had the chance to take it out for imaging yet. (Posted on 11/8/2018)
