Product Description

This exceptional Celestron 19mm Luminos ultra wide field 2" eyepiece uses six optical elements for optimized performance across a very wide and flat 82° field of view. A 10" f/4.5 Dobsonian reflector will have a full 1.36° field at 60x with this eyepiece, large enough to hold all of the Pleiades in a single field. A 4" f/8 refractor will have a 1.91° field at 43x, nearly four times the diameter of the full Moon. The calculator below will show you how wide a field you can expect with your particular telescope.

This 19mm Celestron Luminos is designed to have minimal field curvature. This makes it particularly well-suited for use with flat field telescopes such as Celestron EdgeHD and Meade Advanced Coma-Free flat field catadioptric scopes and refractors with field flatteners.

Overall I found this eyepiece to be decent. My only real complaint for the price is that it suffers brightening at the edge of the field. I still enjoy using the eyepiece because of it's 82 degree apparent field of view. (Posted on 10/31/2019)

This is a great 2.5x Barlow. Works great with my Luminos eyepieces. Affordably priced. (Posted on 10/18/2019)

I love the Luminos Eyepiece series. I have the 15mm, 19mm and 23mm and all work together as they are para-focal. They are affordable and have a great FOV. (Posted on 10/18/2019)

This is a really good value of an eyepiece. The coatings and optics are solid but there seems to be quite a bit of degradation around the edges. It is also really really heavy! This weighs my 12" lightbridge down enough that with a shroud over the truss rods, I don't have enough counterweights and need to make copious use of the brakes. I feel that nothing would really be lost if they took off the adjustable eye cup and mechanism and it would reduce the weight by about a third. (Posted on 12/3/2018)

Really this was a very frustrating eyepiece because it has potential to be outstanding, but ultimately I found the execution and quality control lacking. First the good. The 19mm Luminos has outstanding coatings as deep sky objects had very bright rendition. The eye relief is very comfortable and easily accomodates use with eyeglasses. The edge performance is ok. However, the eyepiece suffers from significant edge of field brightening. The outer field sky background is lighter than in the central field and ultimately this bleeds contrast from the view. In addition my sample was bought new and came with internal dust. When I took it apart I also found a fingerprint on the internal lense surfaces. Basically Celestron has here an eyepiece that could be outstanding but is poorly executed. (Posted on 8/4/2017)

Between the 23mm, 19mm, 15mm and 10mm this is the pick of the litter with nice views if you can put up with a slight halo of light around the outside 10% of the FOV. The family of Luminos EPs appears to have a design or manufacturing flaw. The previous Axiom LX line shows no scatter problems. Something changed when Celestron switched to a different supplier.
