Product Description

Reveal celestial wonders like the desolate beauty of the lunar terrain, the serene structure of Saturn’s rings or the brightest deep sky treasures of the Messier catalog with Explore Scientific’s 140mm FPL-53 Apochromatic Refractor.

This is an all new design from Explore Scientific and offers greater quality optics provided by Ohara. We use Ohara FPL-53 glass in these optics which is very similar in characteristics as Hoya FCD-100.

Combining it with optical glass of high refractive index allows us to achieve unprecedented advanced chromatic aberration correction. Ohara FPL-53 is considered the best glass ever produced by Ohara. Having a true diffraction-limited optical design and sized to encourage spontaneous stargazing sessions, this high-quality telescope is a perfect grab-and-go instrument for exploring the skies.

Featuring an air-spaced triplet optical design that virtually eliminates chromatic aberrations, this telescope generates brilliant high-contrast images by combining genuine Ohara FPL-53 extra-low dispersion (ED) glass and proprietary EMD enhanced multi-layer coatings on all optical surfaces.

In addition, this amazing scope also includes a 3" Hexagonal focuser with very rigid design and strong support. Up to 10 lbs of gear can be loaded onto this focuser.

If you're looking for a high-end APO like the 140mm. I believe the Carbon fiber is a must to keep it light unless you have a hardcore mount... I have looked thru a number of ES scopes both carbon fiber and Aluminum. If you're doing Astrophotography, the light weight of these carbon fiber OTAs are far better than the aluminum counterparts to minimize the total weight on the mount. They are also less susceptible to temperature changes. I own an ES 115mm f5.5 FPL-53 scope and couldn't be happier with it. I only got the 115mm because I wanted the fast f5.5 focal ratio). My focus is AP, so aberration is a big concern. A similar scope would cost thousands more from some manufacturers. Fine optics, Light weight, Great price. You wont be disappointed!! These FCD100 scopes provide views and images that are imperceptible to the FPL-53 scopes costing more (I only got the 115mm because I wanted the fast f5.5 focal ratio). My focus is AP, so aberration is a big concern. The FCD100 series really perform. I image with a friend who owns the FCD1 & FCD100 Scopes. A similar scope would cost thousands more from some manufacturers. Fine optics, Light weight, Great price. You wont be disappointed!! (Posted on 11/29/2018)
