Takahashi Starbase 6mm 1.25" Ortho Eyepiece

The short of the long of it is that you will be hard-pressed to find a better 6mm performer at >$60 price mark. It's of solid design and materials! It provides sharper visuals than a red or gold-band EPs of equivalent magnification. When it comes to achromatic aberration, it blows away a Meade 6.4mm Super Plossl (white or yellow lettering). It's brighter than a TMB 6mm clone, or a 5mm and a 7mm Celestron X-Cel LX. The only >$60 product that appears to give it a run for its money in current EPs is the Celestron Omni Series 6mm Plossl. They are pretty equivalent in optical performance. The Celestron 6mm appears to have more focus play, whereas the Takahashi is tighter. The Takahashi may have slightly less achromatic aberration, and the image may be a tad less bright. I'm of the understanding the Baader 6mm Ortho is pretty equivalent but costs around $30 more. My next acquisition will be a Vixen 39202 NPL 6mm EP to satisfy my curiosity if there is anything out the than can outclass this mighty minimalist might! (Posted on 9/23/2020)
