Product Description

This adapter allows you to connect your Celestron computerized telescope to your PC through a high speed USB port, rather than through a slower serial port. This is particularly useful with the laptop computers that most astronomers use to control their scopes in the field, as these portable computers now rarely include a DB-9 or DB-25 serial port.

The USB adapter includes a short (24") cable with a DB-9 connector at one end and a USB connector at the other. The USB end of this cable plugs into your computer. The DB-9 end of the cable mates with the DB-9 connector on the cable supplied with most Celestron computerized scopes to connect the scope to a computer.

A CD-ROM is included that contains the necessary software program your computer needs to convert the serial signals to and from the scope to USB format signals that the computer and computer control programs can recognize.

Celestron sources these cables from a third-party manufacturer (TRENDnet part #TU-S9), so the packaging does not have a Celestron logo on it, only a label on the bottom with the Celestron part number (#18775) and the legend "cable, USB to RS232." The cable supplied by Celestron is as shown in packaging similar to the images on this page, although the packaging color may vary.
