If you don't have a ball head mount on your current photo tripod, this "wedge" will fit the bill nicely. You will need this or a ball mount to attach the Star Adventurer Mini to a photo tripod and have an easy to use equatorial mount. You can attach this piece with either a 3/8" -16 or 1/4"-20 screw. With Sky Watcher's Star Adventurer Equatorial Wedge Base users can adapt a standard photo tripod for use with the Star Adventurer mount. The wedge features a Vixen-style dovetail saddle, and a dovetail plate with a screw to attach the Star Adventurer mount.

When I first purchased my Star Adventurer, it was the only "mount" that I had at the time. I didn't realize how vital this was to the setup. It makes alignment MUCH easier. If you are getting a Star Adventurer, budget for this as well! I just wish it came standard with all models of the Star Adventurer so I didn't have to wait for this to ship after I realized that I needed it, in order to make my rig usable. (Posted on 8/15/2019)
