Product Description

Orthoscopics have been a hidden gem in the astronomy field.  While their field of view isn't as wow factor as the newer 82° or 100°, their field of view is 45°, well made Orthos shine when it comes to sharpness and contrast.  The 4 element design requires a great polish to work at its highest capabilities.  That being said, one would expect nothing less from the fabled Takahashi name.  It should come as no surprise that the eyepiece has very low distortion, however the amount of eye relief (7mm) starts to get a little tight.  The real surprise is that Takahashi brought out an Ortho that is so reasonably priced.  Their new Starbase series will fit right at home in your eyepiece collection, and your bank account will approve as well.

Was going to look for M101 when I decided to look at the double star Mizar/Alcor in the arm of the Big Dipper. The clarity was as good as any big expensive eyepiece. I grabbed my 2.25x Barlow taking me to 187x and once focused the clarity remained. I could easily see Mizar's double Mizar B. I removed the Barlow searched for nearby M101 or the Pinwheel Galaxy. which of course was a bit too big to fit, but I could make out some of the spiral arms. I switched to the 18mm then. This is an excellent eyepiece, if you do not have to wear glasses the 7mm eye relief is fine and I do not find any problems with fov, in my 150mm C6-N Newtonian the stars are crisp to the edges. I used it on the Moon with an Optolong Neb filter that dimmed the 1/4 Moon just enough to not overdo it. The views were amazing and I felt like I could have reached out and touched it. Very sharp over most of FOV. And the FOV is much larger than stated - I would estimate it at least 60 degrees! Very solid And well put together. Highly recommended unless you wear glasses - very short eye relief.
